What to Wear in the First 30 Days of a New Job
I’m about to embark on an exciting new chapter in my career - so naturally, I’ve already envisioned a month’s worth of working outfits
As some of you may know, from April 22nd I’ll be stepping into the role of Editor-in-Chief at Esquire UK.
It’s an exciting opportunity - one that will give me the chance to bring a fresh take on British style to an entirely new platform. However, it also means I’ll be pressing pause on The Closet for a while as I focus on shaping the future of the magazine.
But don’t worry, this isn’t a goodbye. It’s more of a “see you soon.” So do stick around.
Before I set off into the sunset, this seemed like a good moment to give you an idea of the sartorial matrix I’ll be applying to my working wardrobe as I step into my new role.
(Head to Esquire.co.uk in the coming months to read more of my writing, if you can stomach it).
1 | The First Day Look
To keep things simple yet assertive, pair monochromatic tones. Swap out the neutral neckerchief for a pop of colour if you wish to present a little more personality.

2 | The External Meeting Look
I recently picked up this suit from Burberry and I can confirm that I’ve never received more compliments about an item of clothing ever.
Team with simple pieces in a tonally similar, yet moderately darker palette to allow the suit to sing at your v. important breakfast meeting.

3 | The Presentation Look
Your clothes should make a statement, sure, but they also shouldn’t overshadow the brilliance of your pitch. Opt for warm, friendly tones that suggest approachability and keep the cuts roomy, yet expertly layered for depth.
Also, Korean brand Tony Wack is a revelation.

4 | The Off-Site Look
Continue the warm theme but soften the silhouette by incorporating denim, sneakers and a neat little tonal backpack for a look which feels open yet also intentional.

5 | The Big Evening Event Look
Dries Van Noten’s tailoring provides just the right amount of high-key embellishment to make your evening look sing, without looking too attention-seeking.
Eschew a shirt and tie in favour of a tonal vest, and incorporate texture with a pair of velvet slippers.
