Robbie Williams had style, he just lacked the substance to back it up
The pop superstar’s Netflix documentary is a shonkily-made modern fable on the pitfalls of celebrity, ego and the importance of knowing your limitations
I should begin by confessing that I love Robbie Williams. At least, I did when I was younger. I bought all of his albums (Rudebox notwithstanding), I listened to Kids on repeat, Angels was my preferred karaoke song, and I had multiple pictures of the lad from Stoke-on-Trent cut out and plastered across every available surface of my teenage diary.
You can imagine my excitement, then, when the new Robbie Williams documentary popped up on Netflix last week. Directed by Joe Pearlman of Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now fame, and promising similar levels of insight and glossy nineties nostalgia - I binge watched the entire thing on a long haul flight this weekend, and I have to be honest, I came away feeling disappointed.
